Drill Point

Most fastener manufacturer places a lot of emphasis on the corrosion resistance capabilities of their fasteners. However, we feel that Self-Drilling Fasteners' drilling capabilities are equally important. Thousands of fasteners are drilled onto the structures in every project and workers have to do it in as short a time as possible. We have designed a fastener drill point that will provide not just ease of use, but usage with exceptional ease.

When fatigue sets in, two common problems will occur when using the conventional drill point. One, workers will become slower and weaker with every fastener they have to drill into the purlin. This results in slower work pace and higher fasteners wastage. Two, occurrence of slippage becomes more prominent and scratching of the roofing profile comes along with it.

We have created the ideal drill point we call Drill Point. The Drill Point spots a controlled curve angle at the edge of the drill tip to give that extra digging effect. The moment the drill tip comes into contact with the steel purlin, at the very first rotation of the power driver, it starts to dig its way into the steel purlin. Unlike the conventional drill point where sufficient effort has to be applied until the drill tip engages itself.

A simple experiment done on our fasteners with and without Drill Point showed that there is significant improvement of drill speed of up to 30% for fasteners with the Drill Point.

Drill Point also has the "automatic centralizing" feature. This again has got to do with the design we have created with our drill tip. Conventional drill points have the tendency to stray, run or circle especially during initial drill penetration into the roofing sheets. This scratches the roofing sheets around the areas where the fastener will be drilled into and it causes pre-mature corrosion surrounding those areas. But with the Drill Point, we have gotten rid of this problem.

Apart from all the advantages of achieving the AS 3566 - 1990 (Class 3) quality standard, we have not stop there to provide you with a better fastener. We feel that fasteners with sufficient corrosion resistant capabilities should be the most basic requirement for any fastener manufacturer to achieve. This time, we have gone a step further to provide our customers with more.

The Drill Point spots a unique design. This unique yet effective design of drill point is expected to provide our customers with improved fastener penetration speed of up to 30% . This figure is acquired after a series of drill speed test between our Self-Drilling Screws with Drill Point and without. The comparison experiment is carried out with 20 pieces of Self-Drilling Screws with Drill Point and 20 pieces of Self-Drilling Screws without Drill Point, all randomly selected. Below is a chart showing the results of the test.

Test Parameters:
Specimens:        M5.5 (#12) Screws
Test Plate:         5mm thick cold rolled steel
Drill Speed:        1,800rpm
Mass for Drill:    27 kgs
